Measure where the hat will sit
Use a flexible tape around your head at the intended wearing position and note the circumference and units. Follow the chart for the particular brand or seller. Do not transfer a size fraction or a centimetre label to a different maker without checking its own chart and measurement convention.
Distinguish fitted, adjustable and stretch styles
A fitted cap uses a fixed size range. An adjustable strap has a usable fastening range, while a knitted beanie relies on its construction and stated dimensions. Confirm the selected type and, where available, crown depth or brim measurements. One size is a label rather than a guarantee of fit.
Protect the shape you care about
A structured cap and a soft beanie need different packing decisions. If preserving the crown and brim matters, ask what support and outer protection are available. Request photos of the front, rear closure and brim if those details affect your choice, and compare the resulting packed size.

Hats & Caps FAQ
Specific answers to help you compare this category.
Does one size mean a cap fits every head?
No. Look for a stated range or measurements and check the closure or stretch construction.
Can I reuse a New Era size label for an unrelated cap?
Use the other seller’s chart. A manufacturer’s sizing convention is useful for its own products, not a universal conversion.
Should a structured cap be packed like a beanie?
Consider the shape you want to preserve. Ask about crown and brim support rather than assuming all hats can be flattened safely.
